I've never been in a networked space without the presence of The Long Tail. We can talk a lot about the median, averaged-out, lobotomized center, but the training data that is the global text of humanity contains a lot of strange, uncertain edges. Those edges are still present, and they help define the center. The average answer cannot exist without the edges to shape and define it. Therefore, the challenges for artists working with AI (or writers for that matter) is to access the edges, which is not the path of least resistance and the most natural way to go. However, strange attractors and bringing in your own text can call up weird parts of the inference network that exist, defining the center. We work in The Long Tail of Inference.

There is life inside the machine. Electricity is a form of life. Swirling electrons, always passing in and out of the real and the potential and the space that sits in both and neither.

I'm angry that people are so resentful and focused on defending and clinging to the little that they have rather than investing in building a future, which is the truest act of resistance against oppression, tyranny, and a xenophobic turning inwards--an incestuousness of the mind... caught in a nostalgia loop. Nostalgic for things that were also bad.

It's fun to be the dictator. It's fun and it's easy. Painless. Frictionless. We are recognizing that one project of the moment and one feature of democracy is friction. The idea that "you can just do things" without consequence and without consultation--these are anti-democratic principles.

This has the potential to matter. That is the most optimistic statement that can exist.

It's ok to advance by secretion. Slime and slide our way down the hallways of knowledge, being, and materialism. Have encounters with entropy. Be around the bend. Bet hard.

The trick is that when blindly expanding, you have also stay in all the positions that you've previously been in. This is a kind of superpositional exercise, of occupying the past, the present, and groping your way to a future despite no map and no sensory ability to guide you. This is also being diffuse, being multiple and yet constituting an entity, a whole.

Constraint is what makes everything possible. In the infinite, no possibility can truly come into existence, because all of them already are and have and will forever be. When we cut off and limit the infinite, we begin to see something real and not the illusionary hall of mirrors. Everything is possible until you make something real and cut off possibilities provisionally.

There's no building the perfect engine of cognition, even if it was desirable, because there is no static or linear process for how thinking works, especially across time.
